Overview

This remarkable trek around the Annapurna massif takes you on a secluded route through the mystical Naar Phu Valley, known for its Tibetan heritage.

Perfect for adventurers drawn to untouched and rugged landscapes, the Naar Phu Valley, a historical trade path connecting Tibet, has only recently welcomed tourists.

Starting from lush rice paddies and dense forests, the journey transitions into the majestic high-altitude terrain with glaciers nearby. The trail leads to charming stone-built villages such as Metha, Chako, Kyang, and Phu, where prayer flags and chortens decorate the serene Tibetan-influenced wilderness. Exiting the Naar Valley, the trek ascends the Kang La Pass at 5,322 meters, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges.

The journey continues with a swift crossing of the bustling Marsyangdi Valley, followed by a visit to the world’s highest glacial lake, located at nearly 5,000 meters. The trek then conquers the remote Mesokanta La Pass, revealing awe-inspiring vistas of Dhaulagiri and the Mustang region. This extraordinary adventure concludes at Jomsom, amidst the grandeur of the Himalayan giants.

Program Itenary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to rest and explore the vibrant city.

Day 2: Free Day in Kathmandu

Take the day to explore Kathmandu at your leisure. Visit historic sites like Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Kathmandu Durbar Square, or the bustling streets of Thamel. This day also allows time for last-minute preparations for the trek.

Day 3: Kathmandu – Besisahar (950m) / Drive to Jagat (1,300m)

Depart early morning by minibus to Besisahar, the starting point of the trek, where you will meet your trekking team and porters. Continue the journey by local jeep to Jagat, a charming village along the Marsyangdi River.

Day 4: Jagat – Dharapani (1,860m)

The trail follows the Marsyangdi River, leading to Chamje, before ascending steeply to the village of Tal. Situated in a former lake basin, Tal offers stunning views of cascading waterfalls. The hike continues gently to Dharapani, a picturesque village at the confluence of two rivers.

Day 5: Dharapani – Koto (2,600m)

Hike through the village of Bagarchap, offering views of Annapurna II and Manaslu. The trail ascends to Upper Timang before descending into rhododendron forests. Enjoy panoramic Himalayan views along the way, before reaching Koto, a traditional Gurung village.

Day 6: Koto – Naar Phu Valleys – Dharamsala (3,210m) – Metha (3,560m)

Enter the secluded Naar Phu Valleys, crossing suspension bridges and traversing pine forests and narrow gorges. After passing Dharamsala, the trail climbs steeply to Metha, a scenic village with spectacular views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal.

Day 7: Metha (3,560m) – Chaku (3,720m) – Phu Gaon (4,050m)

The trail leads through a rugged landscape with grazing areas and sparse vegetation. Pass Chaku, an old Khampa settlement, before ascending to Phu Gaon. This Tibetan-influenced village is perched on a rocky promontory and offers breathtaking views of Himlung and Annapurna ranges.

Day 8: Phu Gaon – Tashi Lhakang Monastery – Chaku (3,840m)

Day 9: Chaku – Naar (4,200m)

Descend to the Phu River and cross a suspension bridge before ascending to the village of Naar. The trail is adorned with prayer walls and chortens, immersing you in Tibetan culture. Spend the afternoon exploring Naar and preparing for the challenging trek ahead.

Day 10: Naar – Kang La Base Camp (4,400m) – Kang La Pass (5,399m) – Ngawal (3,700m)

Begin early to ascend to Kang La Base Camp and then to Kang La Pass. Enjoy panoramic views of the Annapurna range before a steep descent to Ngawal, a traditional village with stone houses and welcoming locals.

Day 11: Ngawal – Pisang – Drive to Besisahar (2,493m)

Trek from Ngawal to Pisang, a charming village in the Annapurna region. From Pisang, take a scenic drive back to Besisahar, enjoying views of terraced fields, waterfalls, and rural villages.

  • Elevation loss: Approximately -1,200m
  • Hiking duration: 3–4 hours
  • Drive duration: 5–6 hours

Day 12: Drive from Besisahar to Kathmandu

Embark on a long drive from Besisahar to Kathmandu, enjoying the changing landscapes from hills to the bustling capital city. Upon arrival, you can relax or shop for souvenirs in Thamel.

  • Accommodation: Hotel

 

Day 13: Departure from Kathmandu

Transfer to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Take with you unforgettable memories of the trek and the cultural richness of Nepal.
